SAN FRANCISCO, CA. “How shall integrity face oppression? What shall honesty do in the face of deception?” W.E.B. DuBois
As a community it's imperative that we come together to organize so we can educate each other on the deep issues that affect us. Given the current outbreak and pandemic, it has been too convenient for media outlets and talking pundits to liken racism to a virus; one of which there doesn't appear to be an antidote. Nevertheless history continues to prove people of color have no control over how others feel towards them or actions in which they may be impacted. The truth of the matter is we as a people do not hold those in positions of power accountable.
For instance, why is George Washington still on the dollar bill? An indentured servant turned president who enslaved over one hundred natives, yet not one current sitting member of the 116th Congress has proposed legislation to denounce him or the foundation that established the systemic racism he and the other alleged founding fathers were proponents of.
Why is Abraham Lincoln celebrated as the great abolitionist when he in fact was one of the most racist presidents to date?? Furthermore who would expect the children of the oppressors to take a stand for the people their founding fathers oppressed???
We are so distracted by overt racism that covert racism is overlooked. Could the elephant in the room be hidden in plain sight???? God Forbid. Perhaps that would explain why most people are not aware of the need to protest the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Of course the true historians and honest scholars would attest the U.S. Constitution was never intended to apply to the “prisoners of war”, commonly classified as “slaves.” It was Chief Justice Roger Taney in the majority opinion of the Supreme Court who wrote, “It is too clear for dispute, that the enslaved African race were not intended to be included, and formed no part of the people who framed and adopted this declaration. More specifically he wrote “blacks had no rights which the white man was bound to respect; and that the negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his benefit.

If racism is in fact a virus, we must be cognizant of those who may be asymptomatic as we are to those who show symptoms. Much like pathologists and epidemiologists, the right people are needed to study this disease and phenomenon starting with understanding its history.
